Reflections of a Nurse: Even Small Acts of Kindness Can Make a Difference
March 14, 2025
As a teenager, Julie Eberle, RN, cardiac catheterization charge nurse at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, witnessed a devastating car accident involving her friends. She felt utterly helpless because she did not have the knowledge to help them with their injuries. She recalls the incident as a pivotal moment that ignited a desire in her to pursue a career in the medical field. Now as a nurse for nearly three decades, Eberle says that she has had the opportunity to make a difference in countless lives.
“The privilege of supporting patients during their most vulnerable moments, and offering not just medical care, but also compassion and understanding, is deeply rewarding,” shares Eberle. “Even the smallest acts of kindness, like holding a patient’s hand to help ease their anxiety or explaining a procedure in understandable language, can have a positive impact on a patient’s healing journey.”
Supportive leadership
Eberle shares that the leadership team at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center excels at providing the tools the clinical teams need to deliver high-quality patient care, including training programs to keep staff updated on some of the latest medical advancements and access to sophisticated equipment that can help enhance patient outcomes.
“The hospital’s leadership genuinely listens to our concerns and fosters a collaborative environment that impacts patient care,” says Eberle. “Knowing I have a supportive team and the resources I need behind me allows me to focus on what matters most — caring for my patients with skill, compassion and confidence.”
