Lakewood Ranch Medical Center First Hospital in Manatee County to Be Awarded CMS Five-Star Rating
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that Lakewood Ranch Medical Center (LWRMC) is the first and only hospital in Manatee County to be awarded the CMS Five-Star Rating. For 2021, more than 4,500 hospitals were eligible to receive star ratings, giving 455 hospitals a rating of five stars, and awarding only 25 hospitals in the State of Florida with the five star rating.

“Lakewood Ranch Medical Center is proud to be the first and only hospital in Manatee County to receive The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Five-Star Rating," says Andy Guz, Chief Executive Officer of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. "This achievement recognizes the high levels of quality and service that we provide to patients and their families.”
CMS assigned star ratings to hospitals nationwide based on their performance across five quality categories. This is the first star ratings update since January 2020.
- 204 hospitals received a one-star rating
- 690 hospitals received a two-star rating
- 1,018 hospitals received a three-star rating
- 988 received a four-star rating
- 455 received a five-star rating
CMS updated data for the following measures, measure groups and quality reporting and payment programs:
- Timely and effective care
- Unplanned hospital visits
- Hospital Acquired Conditions Reduction Program (HACRP)
- Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (HVBP) Program
- Hospital Readmission Reduction Program (HRRP)
- Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting (IPFQR) Program
- Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality Reporting (ASCQR) Program
- Prospective Payment System-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting (PCHQR) Program
